Update: September 2, 2020
Two things have happened in the days since Adele caused controversy by posting a pic of herself wearing Bantu knots: (1) She “appeared to laugh off the attention,” and (2) Tom Hanks’ son Chet has taken it upon himself to shoot his shot right now.
NBC News reports that Adele hopped into the Instagram comments of another musical artist and “appeared to laugh off the attention” from her original post, writing, “Wah Gwaan! Yow gyal, yuh look good enuh.”
Meanwhile, Chet Hanks (aka the rapper son of Tom Hanks) posted a video hitting on Adele with a fake Jamaican Patois accent, so do with this what you will:

IDK if you’ve noticed, but your fave Grammy-winning songstress—the one and only Adele, of course—has been changing up her look as of late! For her 32nd birthday, Adele hopped online in a super-cute LBD to thank her fans for the well wishes. Then there was that other time she wore a bodysuit and twinned with Beyoncé while obsessively watching Black Is King. Now, our homegirl Adele is wearing even less and going out more, resulting in her most recent look…which some people are dragging her for.
On Instagram, Adele posted a picture of herself previously celebrating Notting Hill’s Carnival festival, an event led by British West Indians in Kensington, London, every August to highlight Caribbean and Black diasporic cultures. To show her support of the culture, Adele stepped out in a Jamaican-flag-print bikini top paired with hoop earrings and Bantu knots in her hair. She wrote, “Happy what would be Notting Hill Carnival my beloved London.”

Although Adele seemingly posted the picture with intentions of celebrating West Indian culture, people could not get past her Bantu knots, a hairstyle typically worn by Black women trying to protect their strands from excessive damage. Shortly after posting the pic, Adele got both meme’d and dragged for cultural appropriation.

Although some people online are requesting that Adele explain her actions, it’s unclear if she’ll address any of the drama, as she isn’t very active on social media. TBD! 😬
