I am successfully emailing ebooks directly from Calibre via Xtra with these settings - Hostname send.xtra.co.nz, Port 465, User Name (my full email address), and SSL encryption. Am unable to get it working for a friend who is on gmail using settings - Hostname smtp.gmail.com, Port 465 and SSL encryption (as per instructions on gmail). (Solved) - How do I set up Calibre email? Aka Why does Calibre email hate me?

I've been using Calibre & I love it (even if it is a bit slow with a larger collection).

I saw a how-to-geek post about Calibre wherein I discovered the email capability I was previously unaware of.

I tried to set it up on my Kindle Fire to no avail. These may be things every geek knows, but how do I know what hostname and port to use? Username and password for what? I have Calibre on a win 7 machine and I'm trying to get it to email from a gmail account. How to install tcpdump for mac.

I did add my email to the Kindle approved email list.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In this article although not for Calibre specifically is all the information about host name and port. Host name is imap.gmail.com. Port is 993. Other items you might need are there, too. SSL is required. Authentication, if ask, is plain. Your email address is your user name and your email password, the one you use to sign on to Gmail, is the password. Be sure to select IMAP if ask and not pop3.

Setting Up Calibre

Below are the steps to change the default font style to Calibri in Gmail.

  1. First thing you need to do is to turn on Canned Responses in Gmail. Canned response is a feature which lets you insert same text in different mails. Thus it works like an automated message which saves your time as you need not to write same thing again and again. To turn-on this feature, go to Gmail settings > Labs tab > Canned Response section > Enable it and save changes
  1. Now open MS Office Word or any other document editor and choose your desired font, size and color. Now type some sample text like Dear XYZ using preselected font settings. Give some space after the sample text by either having multiple spaces or few lines by pressing Enter key.
  1. Select all sample text plus white space (Press Ctrl + a) and then copy it (Press Ctrl + c).

  1. Now, go to compose message in Google Email and paste (Press Ctrl + v) the previous copied text. You will notice that your desired font has been inserted into mail body.
  1. Save this font style by clicking on canned responses below subject box and selecting Save > New caned response. Give a convenient name to remember like font name.

6. It’s done :). From now on whenever you would like to use different font in Gmail, just click on canned responses and select the previously stored font.
